A training seminar for referees involved in preparation and holding of competitions in figure skating, one of the principal sport of the Games, was organized by Olga Kozhemyakina in cooperation with representatives of the Winter Universiade 2019 Committee. Competitions in this sport are scheduled to take place at the Krasnoyarsk Platinum Arena Sports and Leisure Center and include the following events: men’s and ladies’ singles, pair skating, ice dancing and synchronized skating.
Olga Kozhemyakina says that the Krasnoyarsk Universiade will be held in a year after the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. “We expect that after the Games certain changes will take place in figure skating rules and they will be tested at the Universiade. Innovations will concern competition general rules, technical rules and refereeing system. Figure skating technical merit will be more complicated, both in men’s and ladies’ singles and pair skating. I hope that changes will concern not only technical merit, but also presentation, because figure skating is probably the only winter sport that is close to art and creativity”.
The Winter Universiade 2019 referees’ training program is focused on creation of functional judicial manpower in all the sports of the Games. It is expected that key positions of judging panels will be taken by specialists from international and national sports federations, and beginning arbiters will be trained out of ordinary Krasnoyarsk citizens. Candidate selection was organized at the Krasnoyarsk universities on a competitive basis. Volunteers could apply for training and try to get a new qualification.
In 2016 there was a series of seminars on curling, snowboard, freestyle, biathlon, orienteering and Alpine skiing. The training program will last up to the beginning of the 29th Winter Universiade 2019 Krasnoyarsk.
