International University Sports Federation (FISU) officially recognized bandy as a sport. Relevant document, confirming registration of the officially recognized sports, was submitted to the Federation of International Bandy (FIB). In addition, powerlifting, kickboxing and finswimming were also recognized.
“The recognition of sports beyond our current programme is a step forward for the University Sports Movement as it enlarges its reach to more and more student-athletes from different types of sports and countries,” FISU President Oleg MATYTSIN said. – FISU encourages these sport federations to continue to work in the university sports realm and further the messages of education and sport”.
We remind that bandy will be included in the programme of the Winter Universiade-2019 in Krasnoyarsk as a demonstration sport. Krasnoyarsk Ice Stadium "Yenisei” will be reconstructed to hold bandy competitions where a new hockey field, tribunes, designed for 5.000 spectators, and other auxiliary and technical facilities will appear.
“It is pleasant that one of the most popular sports in the Krasnoyarsk Region was appreciated by the International University Sports Federation. Bandy received not only a deserved recognition, but also a new impetus for development among students. I am sure that the Russian team will be able to compete for additional medals at the Winter Universiade-2019”, - said Sergei Alekseev, the Minister of Sports of the Krasnoyarsk Region.
Bandy is the sports team game played on an ice field with the participation of two teams. All players use skates to navigate the ice rink, ball manipulations are made only with sticks. The sports programme of the Winter Universiade-2019 includes men's and women's tournaments.
A special place in the history of the development of bandy in Krasnoyarsk holds “Yenisey” team, which was established in 1934.
